West Bengal Elections: AIMIM Breaks Alliance With Humayun Kabir's party: 'Intergity of Muslims brought into question' (X)

Kolkata: Ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), which is led by Asaduddin Owaisi, has withdrawn its alliance with a party that is headed by Humayun Kabir, due to controversial remarks.

What did AIMIM say about muslims?

AIMIM on Friday in statement said that it “cannot be associated with any statements where the integrity of Muslims is brought into question.”

Taking to X, AIMIM wrote, “Humayun Kabir’s revelations have shown how vulnerable Bengal’s Muslims are. That AIMIM cannot associate with any statements where integrity of Muslims is brought into question.”

Did AIMIM break alliance with Humayun Kabir’s party?

AIMIM announced the end of this alliance by posting on X.

“As of today, AIMIM has withdrawn its alliance with Kabir’s party. Bengal’s Muslims are one of the poorest, neglected and oppressed communities. Despite decades of secular rule, nothing has been done for them. AIMIM’s policy in contesting elections in any state is so that the marginalised communities have an independent political voice,” the party wrote on X.

Asaduddin Owaisi led party also said that it will now contest the elections alone.

“We will be contesting the Bengal elections INDEPENDENTLY and have will have no alliance with any party going forward,” it said.

Why did Trinamool Congress expel Humayun Kabir?

The development comes after Humayun Kabir was expelled from the All India Trinamool Congress and later he formed the Aam Janata Unnayan Party.

The Trinamool Congress had accused former MLA Humayun Kabir of striking a deal worth Rs 1,000 crore with the BJP. However, Humayun Kabir immediately retorted to this allegation, denying it. He said the audio clip released by Trinamool was fake.
